Black Ops Training Update – Month 1 (and a half)

4-0-300 Blog 088

After a bit of a longer hiatus then I wanted we are back with a new post. First before we get into the actual meat of the article I just want to say sorry, the plan was to post bi-weekly about how the Black Ops training was going but for a couple of reasons that’s been harder than thought. First was having to put our family dog of ten years down so that was really tough, secondly the workouts in the training plan I’m following are longer and more time intensive then I was planning, which leaves less time to write up new posts. Now having got that out of the way here we go.

So as far training is going I’m really liking the World’s Toughest Mudder plan I’m using. It’s still has enough of the heavy lifting/CrossFit-esque workouts I like to keep me interested plus I am feeling my long running improve which is my primary goal right now. I haven’t been able to stick to the plan 100% so far, each week as per usual as family, life and work make that an impossible task. What I do is try my ass off to make it happen as true to the plan but if something comes up I start prioritizing the week’s workouts to the ones I need to do the most first, then the ones I actually have time to do secondly. One trick I’ve used because the run distances are getting so long is I actually split those in half so I can get part of it done during the limited time I have during the day, then doing the rest at the end of the night after work. This is working for me, now it means I have to be aware of a little bit of sleep I lose for the next day but it still gets done.

I’m noticing progress in my running as well as strength, but I haven’t noticed improvements in terms of what will help in the grip intensive obstacles so I’m hoping the plan starts to bump that up in the next few weeks. I’ve also set a May 1st start date (Today) to hyper focus on my macros, calories and sugar intake for the last month and a half of training to really get the most out of it. I’m also really excited to be incorporating a fundraiser into my training as I’m running the Calgary Marathon 10K with a 20-pound weight vest to raise donations for KidSport so if you can please donate.

That’s where we’re at right now, so the idea for posts going forward is every two weeks building up to Black Ops. As it’s already halfway through this training “month” plus I start having race coming up here in the near future that should be relatively easy. So, I’ll check you then.
